Problem
Build a platform exactly 3 inches high, tolerance of 1/8 of an inch high and low, out of one piece of paper. Construct it so that it will hold as many pennies as possible. The pennies may be stacked in any order.
The Hand Drawn Sketch
These are six of the sketches our group drew. These are just the beginning designs that our group will add onto and improve.
The Google Sketch
This is a sketch of the paper platform my group will be making. We have cylinders holding up a paper platform to provide a support to the platform. Each cylinder will be about the size of a penny to receive the full support of each of the individual cylinders.
Prediction
I predict our platform will hold 60 pennies.
Scientific Principles
We built two projects. One was small but very strong. It was a bunch of rolled paper glued together with a base at the bottom. This was our strongest project. The second project was bigger in area but a bit weaker. It had to be able to sustain the weight of the pennies as well as be able to hold steady.
